The End of the Sykon Blog

Hello,

It saddens me to say that I will no longer be making updates or posts on this blog.

What are my reasons?
Three weeks ago I set up a forum. I've received only one post with suggestions; this was the only person to even bother signing up for the forum. This leads me to believe that my efforts to create a good and popular blog have been in vain. My tracker supports this verdict. In addition since only one person has bothered to participate, those others who have visited my blog aren't very dedicated viewers (not intended to offend).

How might this blog be a failure?
My blog is online and intended to help others in whatever ways it ends up helping. The Sykon blog doesn't really benefit me in any way; I don't do this as part of a job, to promote something, or use AdSense to gain any form of additional income. The Sykon blog is for the public. It's apparent that there is very little public (based on my reasons for closing blog).

Who is to blame?
I don't blame anyone, except perhaps myself. Since I am the sole owner and labourer for this blog I am responsible for getting your attention and keeping it- I haven't done so it seems.

Where to now?
I'm eager to focus on writing more in order meet certain goals I’ve set for myself.

I would like to thank Ashley (AKA burningsunrise on the forum) for her suggestions. I would also like to thank Sarah (AKA wingnut12 on the forum) for volunteering to moderate the forum.

‘Til next we meet,
~Sykon

Dear Readers and New Comers...

Hello readers and new comers,

Lately my blogging hasn't been exactly what I'd call good. I'd also say I'm rather unenthusiastic about blogging in general at the present time. I think a break from blogging is in order, and then I'll decide what to do next. I'm planning not to worry too much about blogging in the meantime.

I've opened up a forum (listed below) for comments and suggestions on things that might make this blog more exciting, not only for me but also for you. Please take the time to make some suggestions and comments no matter how stupid, simple, and/or complicated they may seem. If you're a new comer and don't think you're qualified to make suggestions then check out what's on the blog. You can look at previous posts easily- there are links to the right.

All of your suggestions will inevitably improve the quality of this blog as a whole. Typically, I also give credit where credit is due; it could be your claim to fame. There are futher details on the forum by following the link below.

Unfortunately I cannot take a break and manage your wonderful suggestions on the forum; therefore I am leaving the management of the forum to Sarah McGuire (AKA: wingnut12). I both trust her judgement and communicate with her readily, therefore she is ideal for the position. Also, I more than likely will be checking in myself periodically.

Thanks,
~Sykon

Changes Coming Soon

Hello readers,

I know I haven't posted a whole lot (or at all) in the past few weeks and I appologize. I'm working on some things concerning the blog as a whole. Mainly this involves setting up a place where I can take suggestions, from you, my wonderful readers.

It is a little bit more work than expected, but things should be good to go very soon. I'll be putting up a more official and informative post, as well as links and what not as soon as everything is ready.

Please continue to check in as I will need your help in making improvements.

Thanks,
Sykon :]

Movie Review: The DaVinci Code

The DaVinci Code
Genre: Mystery Adventure Thriller
Rating: 10/10

Overview: When murder occurs it is only one of the many steps someone is taking to conceal one of the biggest secrets of all time. At the center of it all is Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, a renown symbologist and local cop respectively. We follow them in this thrilling adventure as they seek the truth.

Review: This was an amazing movie. The plot was very fast and exciting and kept throwing you deeper and deeper. The complexities of the movie were made simple without taking away from the story. I saw nothing wrong whatsoever with the movie. Great plot, great mystery, great thrill, great adventure, great characters.

Note: I didn't read the book.

Sarah McGuire says:
Rating: 9/10

Review : The plot was fast-moving and action packed; the theater actually screamed at one point which was an unexpected thrill. They also managed to incorporate most of the symbology and complex history without losing too much of the story, or too many people along the way. They did, however, deviate from the plot line and facts in the book, which I found disappointing, but I suppose they had to do it for time and simplicity's sake. The books are always better than the movies anyway. I also wouldn't have cast Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon; he was lacking emotion. Silas, on the other hand, was very well played, I was impressed with the depth given to that character. Overall, it was a movie not to be missed!

Movie Review: The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard
Genre: Comedy
Rating: 9/10

Overview: When the thought to be, point skimming quarter back is sent to jail things don't look good. With both convicts and prison officials not exactly on his side, he's requested to help the guards' football team by making a practice team from the convicts to play the guards.

Review: This was a great movie. It had pretty clean humor from I remember, and it wasn't stupid humor like a lot of movies these days. I haven't laughed at a movie that much since...umm...Home Alone? The characters were played pretty decently, minus the fact that convicts generally aren't that nice. The plot was decent as well.

Movie Review: Lucky Number Slevin

Lucky Number Slevin
Genre: Action
Rating: 10/10

Overview: When Slevins' life takes a turn for the worst it only gets worse when he the local gangs pick him up. Thinking he's someone else, they want him to pay them back the other guys debt. He is left with no other choice to bargain and comply, making this 'normal guy' a soon to be assassin.

Review: This was a great movie. The plot was great, with some good twists. The characters were seemingly flawless. The action wasn't overly plentiful but the deep story made up for it.

Movie Review: Firewall

Firewall
Genre: Action Thriller
Rating: 8/10

Overview: When the family of the man in charge of network security gets taken hostage, he has little choice but to co-operate. However knowing that theres a good chance that co-operation or no co-operation they're all dead anyway it becomes an uphill battle for both the protagonist and antagonist.

Review: This was a decent movie. The characters seemed pretty well played. There seemed to be pretty good logic- for Harrison Ford being stubborn as hell. The only problem I had was that it developed rather slowly both action and plot wise. Other than that it was pretty exciting once things picked up.

Movie Review: Beowulf & Grendel

Beowulf & Grendel
Genre: Action Adventure
Rating: 6/10

Overview: When his father is killed Grendel gains a hate like no other. Honourably killing only Danes and those bringing malice to him- he seeks his revenge. On the flip side: for glory Beowulf seeks to kill Grendel. This is based on the famous poem Beowulf.

Review: This was ok, nothing spectacular though. I found the movie rather plain. It wasn't anything really new or very exciting. The only thing it had was a good moral it seems.

Note: If you'd like a better interpretation of the Beowulf poem- the 1999 movie with Christopher Lambert, Beowulf is recommended. If you like this style of movie, a great one is The 13th Warrior with Antonio Bandares- an action adventure down to earth style movie with a slight epic feel.

Series Review: Full Metal Alchemist

Full Metal Alchemist
Genre: Action Adventure Drama Fantasy
Rating: 10/10

Overview: Following in their fathers footsteps as alchemists, Edward and Alphonse Elric embark on a journey like no other. It all started on one fateful night when they attempted the forbidden: human alchemy, bringing their mother back from the dead. Having given up on any form of resurrection, with just cause, their new mission is to save each other.

Review: This was an amazing series. It had such a good mix of all it's genre's it was really amazing. You may ask why I put fantasy in there, it's mainly because even though actual alchemy is closer to science/medicine, it's more like magic/sorcery in this series. The action was a very good mix of actual fighting and alchemy, and the characters were swell. The plot had several twists which mad things very interesting. The only real problem I had was the ending, but that's personal preference.

I can't wait till Full Metal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa comes out, dubbed, in September. It carries on from the series, it's only a single movie though.

Movie Review: X-Men: Last Stand

X-Men: Last Stand
Genre: Action Drama
Rating: 10/10

Overview: In this third installment of the non-animated X-Men series, a cure for the on set of mutancy is found but not everyone is happy. Some see it as an escape. Others feel that you can't cure your identity, and become offended and upset.

Review: This was a very good movie. I think it's actually better than the first two. The action was awesome and the characters were well maintained. Yes, maintained- they were developed pretty fully at this point, but the movie still gave some lead way for potential new comers. The plot was great, and really built up well. It had a some twists and this made for some drama.

Movie Review: What The Bleep Do We Know?!

What The Bleep Do We Know?!
Genre: Educational Science Drama Comedy
Rating: 9/10

Overview: This movie addresses many issues and topics using quantum physics. It follows along side a story which is used to explain some of these topics. Some of the story is also explained with the use of science. The story is about a recently divorced deaf woman and what she is dealing with.

Review:
This was a good movie. It was very interesting and intriguing. The science was pretty in-depth. The story was pretty light, but that didn't bother me- I was more interested in the science anyway. It should also be noted that just because quantum physics may sound confusing and complicated, the movie really simplifies it so anyone can understand.
