Sony's Infringes on Our Privacy? Opens us to exploits?
It seems that while trying to protect their cd's from being copied they had root/system software, known as rootkit(virtually invisible), installed on our computer. It would install automaticaly when you insert their cd into your pc without your consent or knowledge. The rootkit was designed to track and prevent you from copying cd's.
It was bad enough that they did that, but it was worse what they opened millions of pc's up to a trojan name Backdoor.Ryknos which exploited the rootkit and its actions. The trojan acted as many allowing sight of your information to unwanted eyes. It also made itself welcome by making it a trusted application and permited by your firewall in order to further exploit your pc.
In conclusion I think think that no music cd or any cd should be installing anything on my pc without my direct permission let alone invisibly. Rootkit was mentioned in the user agreement which didnt require let you read prior to its self installation. Who reads them anyway? They are like 20pg long! Sony is huge in the electronic entertainment industry. They have the money and resources to be intelligent about their buisness.
The cd's were released last week.
Sony gives instructions on disabling the auto-run feature:
www.ca.com/securityadvisor
In addition security vendors offer detection of the security risk.
