Movie Review: V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta
Genre: Dramatic Action
Rating: 10/10

This movie was amazing. The plot was fantastic; the characters were played well; the action was awesome, even though a tad sparse; the effects were good and that's all I can think of to say. It was an amazing movie and I highly reccomend it.

Conquer Procrastination!

Ok I’ve been having this problem with procrastination and work. They don’t supervise me, give me deadlines, or make me report anything to them. Today I followed through on a solution which I found yesterday.

Why do we procrastinate?
1) “I’m being forced to do the task.”
2) “I want it to be perfect, but don’t want to dedicate the time. If I waitto the last minute I have an excuse for a crappy job.” (May be a subconscious thought.)
3) “I’m intimidated by the task.”
4) “It’s no fun, and unrewarding, not to mention it's time consuming.”

Let’s go through these in order:
1) No one’s got you at gun point day in and day out forcing you to do this. Just like you choose wake up in the morning, you can choose not to do this. If you’re not happy with where your life is at, choose to change it.
2) If you start now you will have TONS of time to perfect it. Generally speaking, you’ll get more satisfaction from perfecting it opposed to doing a half ass job because the deadline was at 8am and u started at midnight. We are also human, no one is perfect, and perfections is a matter of perception.
3) Ok, let’s not think of it as one task; let’s think of it as a bunch of small ones. Go ahead, make a list of small things that you need to do for the task, as small as you can make them within reason. Do just a few of these at a time and before you know it it’ll be done.
4) Ok fun is fun right? So let’s plan our fun, and then we’ll plan our work. How about I get that thing I’ve wanted once I pass that milestone. Yes it’s time consuming, but we are choosing to do it right? So how about after I do 30 minutes of work I’ll have earned my supper. This is self rewarding, it’s easy and takes minimal discipline. Everything feels better enjoying when you know you've earned and deserve it.

Well, there are some ideas.

What I did:
First I wrote down a few things on a piece of paper “I don’t have to do this, I’ve chosen to do this.” “It can be perfect if I start now, I’ll have lots of time.” “1hr work yields 20min play.” Then I wrote down a list, of like 30-40 things I needed to do for the project; it’s all small easy stuff! I then decided I wanted to have the last 2 hours of the day off, so I worked the first 6, I gave myself my normal break, 15min, and 15min for a makeshift lunch break(I normally eat as I work.) And I found I got really bored at least once an hour, so I gave myself 2 min to play an arcade game only once per hour.

What did I accomplish today? 6 hours work, more then I’ve done in the past 3-4 weeks. It wasn’t overly boring; I got things done and am really proud of myself. :D :P

Yes, 25% of my day is wasted, but then again, they’re taxing me 30% of my income! I say it’s justified.

You are the boss of you, empower yourself and do something for you. Be strong! Don't wait!

:]

Comments?
Success stories welcome.

What I read yesterday to cause all this:

Loosing Weight

I can't really speak from experience, but I can speak from knowledge and common sense.

1) Your body needs nutrition. There's no getting out of it, you'll get rather sick, tired, lazy, loose concentration, become weak, and dumbfounded. I know for a fact that a Vitamin C deficiency will give you scurvy.

2) You got to starve that fat. If you want to loose weight you need to burn off the excess fat cells and the calories they feed off of. Two options here, not eating fatty foods will help you loose weight it gives it a level of equivalency to exercise because you don’t have those extra calories, your normal labour will actually seem like exercise to your body because your burning all that energy, and fat off. There’s also the option of exercise, burning those extra calories off along with the fat.

3) You can't make your body what it isn't. Some people are big boned; some people's bodies are just naturally a certain size; there could also be a health issuse. Me, I can eat junk food galore and put on virtually no weight on at all.

4) Weight loss is a lifestyle change. You can’t stop eating junk food, or exercise until you loose the weight then go back to the way things were, it just won’t work. In order to loose weight you need to make a complete lifestyle change, permanently stop with the junk food, and exercise regularly FOREVER. Eventually your body won’t even want the stuff anymore. I used to be able to eat bags upon bags of chips, now a small bag makes me ill.

5) Breakfast is important. This is a biggy, I heard on the news, or help TV, that not eating breakfast causes 80% of obesity. Astounding eh? The reason is because they get hungry a couple hours later, breakfast is the most important meal of the day it gets you off to a good start, so you don'te to be making up for it the rest of the day.

6) Hydrate. I believe you’re supposed to drink something like 8 glasses of water a day. If you don’t hydrate properly your body will act hungry, when it’s actually thirsty.

What’s this sum up to? Change your diet, eat healthy, exercise regularly, eat breakfast, and make sure you drink plenty of water or light, hydrating fluids. Planning will help the task seem less intimidating. You may also want to consult a physician if you are endlessly trying to loose weight with no results, as it could be a health issue.

Brent Buckman

Brent Buckman is from Toronto Canada and was the first Canadian to be on Donald Trump's show, The Apprentice. He was fired on episode four because was considered a negative influence on his team members, and he wasn't involved in many of the tasks from the get go despite his efforts. Now he's living in Florida, on a self made diet and has lost about 62 pounds.

The Apprentice
I thought Brent had potential to be The First Canadian Apprentice in the beginning. He had some creative ideas, and had no problem putting himself out there for the sake of his team.

His team members were quick to judge him though for his outspokenness, outgoingness and his physical stature. When they judged this way it brought out what seemed to be an immature side to him, and frankly as a Canadian, I found it embarrassing.

He made childish comments like "I hate her face!" and "You're just a you know what."(implying she's a bitch). Sure these statements were deserved, considering by episode four they were giving him more pointless work so they wouldn't have to deal with him, and calling him fat. They said it a little less directly, but either way.

In the end his own comments were the end of him. While others were being 'evaluated' in the board room, he made some comments that only brought more attention to him and he got fired.

I’m rather glad he got fired, he was making us Canadians look bad.

His Diet Plan
I looked at his diet and it seems bad. I'm sure you can loose weight with it but there is very, very little nutritional value in bagels, margarine and 8oz of meat. The reason it may seem effective is because of that fatal flaw, you might as well not eat at all, or shove your finger down your throat after eating.

Consider yourself warned!

After writing that I think he’s making us look even worse.

Movie Review: Jackass The Movie

Jackass The Movie
Genre: Painful Comedy
Rating: 9/10

If you've seen Home Alone, then you may find it similar to this. The only thing is, instead of a kid beating up a couple adults, you got adults beating themselves up in some of the most painful ways imaginable. I found this movie really funny, it's like those insane internet videos only there's 1.25 hours worth and this is way more extreme. I recommend it but its not for the faint of heart.

Nova Scotia's First Cage Fight

Recently there has been some controversy over allowing Nova Scotia's first mixed martial arts cage fight to occur next month. The purpose of the event is for two people to step into a 6x6 metre hexagonal cage and beat the hell out of their opponent until they give up. The event allows punching, kicking, throwing, choking. Competitors aren't allowed to elbow people in the face, back of the head, spine, or hit the groin.

The controversy is with the boxing coaches and authorities, saying that it's too dangerous. They also say that it won't help the image of boxing, saying people will automatically associate boxing with the brutal cage fights. The boxing commission is willing to suspend boxers if they compete.

The fighters are required to pass a medical exam before they are allowed to compete, this proves they can defend themselves. Doctors, referees, fighters and the fighters’ corner, can all stop the fight if necessary. Referees are educated as well, ensuring that the event is as safe as possible.

In boxing the winner is the one who gets the most points by landing enough punches, or knocks the other out. This gives it only two sides, one side a battle of endurance, on the other side, allowing knockouts makes it no better than cage fighting.

I'm not concerned with the image of boxing, if anything boxing gives fighting a bad image. In real fighting, there aren’t 10 rounds, towels to throw in, or rules. It's your well being or theirs, your life or theirs. Cage fighting is pretty close to this without people constantly dropping dead. Boxing seems pretty far from this, pretty far from fighting.

Finally, I say let'em go at it! These are trained professionals, they understand the risk, and they can cope with the pain, and agony of getting the crap beat out of them. Skilled fighters also have control over their mind, body, and actions, they wouldn't be skilled fighters otherwise.

Movie Review:Two For The Money

Two For The Money
Genre: Sports Gambling-Drama
Rating: 9/10

This movie was rather exceptional. I'm not big into sports or gambling but I found this interesting, and enjoyed it. I could relate with the characters and understood where most of them were coming from in the end.

Back and Revamped

Ok, I decided that I'd try and work on this blog. I've added a couple things I'll try and do consistantly(reviews). I moved old crap to the bottom, first post, I ever made. There will be more to come as I do, read, write, hear, watch things. With all this stuff hopefully I can keep to at least 2 posts a week of something helpful or interesting.

Today I've done 5 posts alone, and gotten tired of posting, so I'll save the rest for when I'm not so lazy.

If anyone would like a little info on the movies, books or anything else I comment on, post a comment and let me know.

Book Review: Sabriel

This is a first too. As I read books, I'll give a rating I suppose. lol

Sabriel
Author: Garth Nix
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: 10/10
This was a very good book. I enjoyed every minute of it. It had no really lulling points where it got boring. 99% of the book was essential to the story. Sabriel would get good and exciting everytime it seemed like it might get boring. It took me a week to read around work and other appointments, including tv shows.

This is the first in a series of three. My dad has the second. I originally bought the book for him, but on the way home, that day, I started reading it on the bus, I was hooked, and read a fifth of it before the simpsons came on that night. I kept reading it and finished it in a week. I bought the third today, and have to wait till I go back home to get the second off my dad and read that before the third.

I bought a book thats not part of a series of Garth Nix too. His style of writing keeps me hooked, it's very eventfull.

Movie Reviews

This is my first movie review, and if I enjoy doing it, I'll stick with it. Of course this depends on how much I get and watch them.

Million Dollar Baby
Genre: Drama-Action
Rank: 10/10
This was an amazing movie!! I highly reccomend it. There was more drama then action but I loved the action. One hit k.o. wow! I really got to care for the characters, and feel for them, especially the girl. Not much else to say other than it was amazing.

A History Of Violence
Genre: Action-Drama
Rank: 8/10
This was a pretty decent movie overall. The movie balanced action and drama in a decent way. I think I had to assume most of the drama because not much of it was voiced or really shown; this might have been to help show the conflict, but there were a few scenes where it was almost necessary for more drama to occur. The action was sparse and a little bit short, but that made the point about the chracater. Things didn't feel exactly tied up at the end.

Mr and Mrs Smith
Genre: Action-Comedy-Drama
Rank: 6/10
It had mild humor in it. I found it lightly enjoyable. The drama was shallow at best. The action was mostly senseless destruction as the two competed to...(won't say, might spoil the movie). Action seemed slightly glorified, which I don't particularly like.

Idle Hands
Genre: Horror-Comedy
Rank: 3/10
Ok this was supposed to be a horror thriller I think, but I found it mostly boring and stupid. It wasn't that funny, I don't recall being at all concerned or scared for the characters. I mostly rolled my eyes at their lame attempt at comedy.

File Sharing Update

Nothing much has changed in the line of things concerning what I'm using. I'm finding bitcomet is very nice and works for me rather well. It's pretty easy to navigate and do what I need to do. I still like the list of other torrent sites, that allow me to go other places to look for more rare things. As a rule I stick to www.torrentspy.com though.

Enjoy

Challenges of Blogging

Ok, I haven't posted anything in months, I know. I'm sure you are very mad at me all three?...two?...one?...none of you??...Whatever I was told its healthy to talk to yourself...lol

I'll explain myself:
School - It's boring and the last thing I wanna do afterwards is read and write so you guys can read it; sorry. :P
Work - See school.
News - It's pretty interesting to read, tech news at least. It seems pointless though. Why read and summarize? You guys could just go read it yourself.
Life - Generally it's a drag, I don't do much that's all that exciting. I'd probably end up complaining about things anyway.
Computer Security - I could probably write some stuff about this. New job's taught me some stuff about this. I don't want to give you false information though, I'm no expert.
Games - I could critique quite a few of the free mmo's right now.
Books - I've been slacking here, I averaged one a day at the end of August. I had no school, no work, no tv, no internet. Reading a book now, games are boring so I may pick it up again, but I'd average one a week, between work and tv shows.
Movies - I watch a couple when they become available to me through one means or another.
Writing skills - Soooo...I jot a couple fantasy like story things down from time to time, or alot...but I'm not comfortable letting many people read what I write.
Routine - I think its a responsible thing to do to post routinely, at least a couple times a week. With the above as excuses I question how consistantly I could post.

Suggestions people?? Person?? Comments?? lol
