Software Review: Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox
Type: Web Browser
Rating: 10/10
Tired of lame exploitable browsers? Tired of lame colours? Tired having fifteen programs for simple jobs? Well Firefox is for you then.
Firefox is an open source browser. This means thousands if not millions of people are able to view, edit, fix, and test the browsers source code. This makes it rather perfected. In the recently passed weeks I've read about several problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer and how it's open to exploits due to poor programming. In short, Firefox is more secure, safe, and stable.
There's gotta be thousands of add-ons for Firefox. You can change the appearance by getting new browser skins and themes- everything from making your browser black and blue to a cats theme(I was suprised too).
Need an RSS feed? Use a music player while browsing? Lots of work to check Gmail, Yahoo? Hate pop-ups? Want that in-browser-video but it won't let you save to your hard drive? Need a definition? Just lazy? Anything, there seems to be a solution to it all through wonderful Firefox add-ons. I kid you not. There seems to be near everything available through add-ons available on their site.
In addition it's all free. Free free free. Free! It'll make life so much easier too. I can look up definitions quickly with a simple shortcut action, search torrent sites, chat on IRC, and more all in my cool new browser.
In conclusion I highly recommend this browser. It's very secure, platform compatible, and has many ways that you can improve it with relative ease.
Note: Please don't misinterpret my praise. I haven't tested all of these add-ons out, nor do I intend to due to their volume. All I know is there's often several variations of a add-on allowing you to pick and choose. Alot of these add-ons are also made diligently by fellow users and programmers, and some are in beta with bugs that need to be fixed. Each seems to have a place to post comments, rate, and report the bugs that may arise. This works to aid the programmer in creating the perfect add-on for you and many others.
Glossary:
Add-on - An addition to an item, often intended to improve it.
Beta - The testing stage of software in which it's not considered finished.
Bug - A problem in a piece of the source code of software that causes an undesired effect.
Source Code - The behind the scenes program code used to create a program or software.
